John is a Loud and Proud Chartered Professional Engineer. He has degrees in Engineering, majoring in Civil Engineering and Business Studies, majoring in Accounting.
His early career was in water supply before moving to the petroleum industry. He has gained experience in design engineering, construction, operations, transport, manufacturing, supply chain management and optimisation, marketing, public relations, human resources, industrial relations, government relations, quality management, business excellence and general management.
In 2000, John established his own consulting and coaching business, with a major focus on leadership development. Having completed the AICD Company Director’s Course in 2010, John is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
He is also a member of the Rotary Club of Melbourne, Chair of the Program Advisory Committee for Civil Engineering at RMIT University, and a member of the Evaluation Panel for the Australian Organisational Excellence Awards.
Those credentials have earned him a number of leadership roles within Engineers Australia, culminating in his election as National President and Chair of the Board 2016.

The UK Chapter's role is to further the involvement of Australian Engineers in the profession while they are based in the United Kingdom, by:
- Providing CPD opportunities such as technical talks and site visits;

- Assisting with the Getting Chartered process for members.
