Biography
Dr Denise Tiran HonDUniv FRCM
Dr Denise Tiran is an international authority on midwifery complementary therapies, with over 40 years’ experience in practice, education, research and publication. She holds an Honorary Doctorate from the University of Greenwich and a Fellowship of the Royal College of Midwives, and is a Visiting Professor at a midwifery school in Shanghai, China.
A former midwifery lecturer who developed the UK’s first BSc (Hons) in Complementary Therapies, Dr Tiran has led pioneering research on aromatherapy safety, reflexology, acupressure and women’s use of CTs in maternity care.
Since 2004, her company Expectancy has delivered accredited training for midwives worldwide, including a unique Diploma in Midwifery Complementary Therapies, programmes in acupuncture, aromatherapy, reflex zone therapy and clinical hypnosis, as well as specialist business courses for midwives in private practice.
She teaches regularly across the UK, Europe and Asia, is a sought-after international conference speaker, and provides online education for midwives, doulas and therapists. Dr Tiran is widely published, including several leading textbooks, and serves as Associate Editor for Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice. She has also revised multiple editions of Bailliere’s Midwives’ Dictionary and key Royal College of Midwives guidelines on CTs.
