At Rarity, we are excited to announce an exclusive tasting experience featuring Glenallachie and its innovative whisky brand, Meikle Tòir, on Wednesday, August 27th.
Glenallachie is a distinguished distillery nestled in the heart of Scotland's Speyside region, well-regarded for its dedication to traditional craftsmanship and innovative whisky production. Founded in 1967 by Mackinlay, McPherson and Co., Glenallachie quickly gained recognition for its rich, complex whiskies that showcase the unique character of Speyside. After being bought by Pernod Ricard in 1989, it was sold to Billy Walker, who, along with two business partners, acquired Glenallachie in 2017.
Since then, the distillery has undergone significant changes, including new packaging and a renewed focus on quality, culminating in their 12-year-old expression winning the title of World's Best Single Malt at the 2025 World Whisky Awards.
Glenallachie prides itself on meticulous attention to detail, utilizing a combination of carefully selected oak casks to create whiskies offering a range of rich flavors—think notes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, and spices, all underpinned by a velvety mouthfeel.
Alongside Glenallachie, we are thrilled to showcase Meikle Tòir, an inventive whisky brand that officially launched in 2023. Produced and distilled at Glenallachie, Meikle Tòir represents a bold venture into peated Speyside whisky, which is quite uncommon in the region. Since beginning production in 2018, the Glenallachie team has aimed to craft and perfect a peated single malt.
The name "Meikle Tòir," meaning "Big Pursuit" in Gaelic, reflects their determination to explore this less-traveled path. The packaging for Meikle Tòir, commissioned by Iain McIntosh, captures the beauty of Speyside, particularly the impressive Ben Rinnes, while also alluding to the smoky and herbal flavor profile of the whisky.
Meikle Tòir sources its peat from St. Fergus, which produces a sweeter, more oaky style of smoke due to its formation from the degradation of trees rather than traditional seaweed, heather, and other variations of peat. This unique smokiness beautifully balances with the distillery character of Glenallachie.
During our tasting event, attendees can look forward to:
- Exploring the fascinating history and innovative techniques that go into the production of both Glenallachie and Meikle Tòir whiskies.
- Sampling an exquisite selection of their finest expressions to appreciate the diverse flavor profiles each has to offer.
- Interacting with a knowledgeable Brand Ambassador who will share intriguing stories and insights about the distillery and its legacy.
