About this event

As you know, all of us at Rarity love to showcase the best products from Scotland. We are delighted to welcome the Isle of Barra Distillers. They will be presenting two spirits from their range: a gin and a rum.

The Isle of Barra Distillery, located on the picturesque Isle of Barra in the Outer Hebrides, is the most westerly distillery in Scotland. This family-run distillery is dedicated to crafting exceptional, island-inspired spirits.

Founded in 2017 by a husband-and-wife duo, Michael and Katie, the distillery has grown into a team of six. At the heart of their operation is Ada, their once 50-litre now 75-litre still, named after their daughter.

Isle of Barra Distillery is also committed to sustainability and preserving local heritage. They use hand-foraged botanicals from the island’s rugged coastline to help promote Barra's job economy.

Family plays a vital role in the essence of this spirit brand, exemplified by the use of locally sourced carrageen seaweed as the primary botanical in their Atlantic Gin. This ingredient carries special significance for Michael, deeply rooted in his childhood memories. In addition to the carrageen seaweed, the gin is crafted with 16 other botanicals that are vapour-infused and allowed to rest. The result is the Barra Atlantic Gin, celebrated for its smooth maritime character, coastal notes, and refreshing citrus flavours.

Similarly, carrageenan seaweed plays a crucial role in infusing Island Dark Rum with an array of aromatic botanicals, including cloves, cardamom, coconut, and orange peel. This unique combination enhances the rum's character, resulting in a spiced and aromatic profile that is rich with tropical and maritime flavours. The infusion process not only elevates the spirit's complexity but also pays homage to the island's natural bounty.

Attendees can look forward to:

  • Learning about the history and production of their Atlantic Gin and Island Dark Rum.
  • Sampling a selection of their spirit range.
  • Discovering the Isle of Barra's sustainability efforts.
  • Engaging with a Brand Ambassador from the Isle of Barra.
