At Rarity, we are excited to announce an exclusive tasting experience featuring Meikle Tòir on Wednesday 27th August.
Meikle Tòir is an inventive whisky brand that had an official release in 2023. Meikle Tòir is produced and distilled in the Speyside distillery of Glenallachie.
The team at Glenallachie started producing peated Speyside whisky in 2018 - with Billy Walker's aim to create and cask-perfect a peated single Speyside malt. It is very uncommon in Speyside to have a peated spirit yet "Meikle Tòir", meaning "Big Pursuit" in Gaelic, shows that they intend to pursue the less common path.
The packaging of Meikle Tòir was commissioned by Iain McIntosh to capture the beauty of Speyside and in particular Ben Rinnes, the highest peak in the area of Speyside. The packaging also allures to the smoky and herbal flavour profile of Meikle Tòir whisky.
Meikle Tòir sources their peat from St. Fergus, a mainland peat, which offers a sweeter, more oaky style of smoke owed to the fact it is formed by the degradation of tree rather than seaweed, heather and other variations of peat. Yet the smokier flavour also balances with the distillery character of Glenallachie.
