Meet the Media 2016
Wednesday, 9 November 2016 at 18:00 (GMT)
The CIPR North West is delighted to bring to you a special ‘Meet the Media’ event, bringing together two influential journalists from the North West region.
Open to members and non-members, this ticket-only event will take place in the heart of Liverpool’s commercial district, within one of the city’s newest meeting spaces, Ziferblat.
In attendance will be:
Alistair Houghton – Liverpool Echo
With a newly-created City Desk team and the imminent launch of a new monthly magazine called Business Post, Liverpool Echo City Editor, Alistair Houghton, will attend this exclusive event to explain more about the exciting changes at one of the UK’s most famous media brands. Renowned for writing about jobs, the creative and digital sectors, business history, beer and Wimpy burgers, Alistair will also share his views on good and bad PR, and offer a few hints and tips to help PRs get their stories noticed within a busy newsroom environment.
Joanne Birtwistle – TheBusinessDesk.com
With 2.5 million subscriber emails sent every month and more than 1 million page views over the same period, TheBusinessDesk.com is the fastest-growing business media outlet in the UK. North West editor, Jo Birtwistle, will be attending this special CIPR NW event to talk more about the website’s growing popularity, her role as North West editor, and the kind of content the site looks for from PRs.
Mairead Smyth – Broadcast journalist
Freelance broadcast journalist and producer Mairead Smyth will be in attendance to offer her perspective on what PRs need to do in order to achieve better cut-through with broadcast media. Mairead has worked with the BBC for almost nine years, including BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio Merseyside, where she often works in news planning and frequently deputises as News Editor.
By meeting influential journalists in a relaxed environment away from the 9-5 hustle and bustle, this is your chance to ask those all-important questions, find out what they're looking for from PRs and get more insight into what you can do to earn your business or clients a higher profile.
* Please note that attendance of journalists may be subject to change.
This event is aimed at CIPR members and non-members alike. If you work in PR, be it in-house or agency, this event offers a great opportunity not only to hear from experienced professionals, but also to meet other PRs from the region and find out more about the work of the CIPR North West community.
The evening will start with light refreshments and networking at 6.00 pm; the presentations will follow at 6.30 pm.
Attendance at the event will award 5 points towards the CIPR Continued Professional Development scheme.
At the event, non-members will have the opportunity to receive a special discount code that allows them to join the CIPR without paying the joining fee.
For any queries, please email Linda O’Neil, CIPR’s group administrator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0845 331 2287.
