Event description
An opportunity to meet Small Business Commissioner Paul Uppal and hear about his team's work around late payment in our economy.

About this Event

This is an open networking, not-for-profit event sponsored by Swindon's leading business referral group BusinessWise and also by The Workshed to introduce the town and county's business community to the work being carried out by the Small Business Commissioner and his team.

Paul Uppal, who ran his own business for 20 years, took up the role just over a year ago with the aim of bringing about fair payment practice for the UK's 5.7million small businesses. He hopes to bring about a culture change around late payment and its impact on productivity and survival of many SMEs. In some circumstances, his team can help SMEs tackle payment disputes with larger businesses.

Paul will talk about the work of his team, some of the cases they've been involved with to date and his hopes and aspirations going forward. Paul works closely with government advisers and cross-party MPs.

The evening will follow an agenda with round-table discussions facilitated by BusinessWise members, a talk by Paul with time for Q&As. There will be a professional photographer on hand and it's possible there will also be some local media in attendance during the evening.

Tickets are paid for to cover a portion of the costs of this event and they are limited.

Housekeeping:

Light refreshments will be provided as part of the ticket price. Drinks (wine, juices, water) and canapes.

Finding The Workshed:

Coming by foot/train: come to front entrance on London Street – it’s almost opposite the semi-derelict Mechanics Institute building.

Coming from the train station, the entrance is on the right-hand side of London Street, just before you get to church-like Mechanics Institute on the left.

Coming through the tunnel from the Outlet Centre/National Trust, turn left and the entrance is about 20 metres on the left.

Coming by car: closest parking at Bristol Street or Main Station long-stay car parks. Both are pay and display. Bristol Street is closer and cheaper so we recommend that car park - please be aware to reach this you have to drive around the one-way system so you DO drive through the railway village to bring you to Bristol Street. Look out for the signs on your left and you drive up a ramp.

From Bristol St car park, walk to end (away from big, white cooling tower) and past Great Western Business Centre. Go through the ‘tunnel’ and turn right when the tunnel opens up. The entrance to Workshed is on your immediate right. Use the bell by the white door if the door is not open.

From Main Station car park, turn left at top of ramp and follow access road/one-way system, through tunnel and first part of industrial estate. At end of tunnel, entrance to Workshed is opposite, to the left..
