Event description

Description

Meet the Training Advisers in Crawley.

This is an opportunity for Crawley Leaders to meet and discuss with these experienced Scouters any aspect of Adult Scout Leadership Training, such as;

  • available and required learning
  • how Adult Leadership Training works in practice
  • assist your access to Compass to ensure you can track and control your Personal Learning Plan (PLP)
  • plan and prioritise your learning where learning is required
  • help you decide how you want to validate learning
  • validate learning you have completed by checking your evidence and discussing your activities
  • assess whether prior experience or training means that further learning is not required, and whether moving straight to validation is more appropriate
  • plan your next steps - courses, e-learning, workbooks, videos or workshops and validations
  • clarify the commitment to Mandatory Ongoing Learning
  • discuss further training; e.g. Module 38, Residential Experiences for Leaders aiming to achieve a Nights Away Permit.

All Leaders have a Training Adviser assigned to support them through training but you can work with any TA. If you want to meet your TA specifically please contact them directly. Please ask me if you do not know your TA.

Your TA may suggest that you meet at your Colony, Pack, Troup or Unit meeting as seeing you 'in action' makes validation much simpler. Please remember that validation is not a test, pass or fail, more an ongoing process of collecting skills and knowledge with the guidance of an experienced Scouter, aiming to achieve your Wood Badge. And, you have three years to complete the learning and validating of 18 modules.

You should never plan to do more than 3 or max 4 modules validating on any one occasion as this can be quite onerous and reduce the worth of the exercise.

Sectional Assistants are welcome to attend this evening session to validate learning from Module 1, Essential Information and Module 3, Tools for the Role to complete the Getting Started training requirement (a requirement to enable an Appointment to become 'full').

Attendance time: TAs will be available from 7pm but feel free to come and meet the TAs at whatever time you are free during the evening

Please bring your Adult Personal File and any evidence you have collected

Dress code: non-uniform

Refreshments: Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided.
