Megan Henderson plus James MacKenzie Trio

About this event

Buinidh Megan don teaghlach ceòlmhor, ainmeil, Abrach agus bidh i a' seinn agus a' cluich iomadh ionnsramaid. Ghabh i pàirt ann am Fèisean agus Sgoil Chiùil Loch Abar na h-òige mus deach ia air adhart gu foghlam ann an ceòl aig àrd ìre ann an Glaschu.

An-diugh bidh sinn ga cluinntinn gu tric mar bhall den chòmhlan Breabach ach is tric a bhios i a' cluich cuide ri luchd-ciùil aithnichte eile agus tha sinn gu math toilichte gu bheil i air cuirm a chur air dòigh airson Blas còmhla ri Alistair Iain MacPheadrais air piano agus harmonium.

Bidh Seumas MacCoinnich agus a chòmhlan a' nochdadh sa chuirm cuideachd. 'S ann à Leòdhas a tha Seumas agus e gu math aithniche mar phìobaire a bhios a' cluich ionnsramaidean eile cuideachd."

Megan Henderson is multi instrumentalist and singer hailing from the West Highland town of Fort William. Growing up in a household with 6 older siblings all immersed in music, her path to becoming a musician was almost inevitable. Her early musical training was received through local Fèisean and the Lochaber Musical School. Megan went on to study Classical Violin at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where she gained her degree and valuable experience in performance, composition and arrangement.

Traditional Scottish music always remained a strong passion and shortly after graduating she joined highly respected Scottish folk group Breabach. In her 10 years with the band, Breabach have carved out international recognition as one of Scotland’s most innovative and creative acts. Her versatility, technical skill and outgoing nature make Megan a much in demand session musician, performing and recording with artists including Salsa Celtica, the Grit Orchestra, Le Vent Du Nord, Siobhan Miller, Kris Drever and Duncan Chisolm. Megan was nominated as ‘Instrumentalist of the Year’ at the Scottish Traditional Music Awards in 2012 and, ten years later, released her debut album ‘Pilgrim Souls’.

Megan and Alasdair Iain Paterson will be joined by the James Duncan MacKenzie Trio. James is a multi-instrumentalist from Lewis, best known as a fine piper and composer and his trio will open the evening.
