Members’ Private Visit to Sotheby’s Auction House

An exclusive visit for Decorcafe Members to the world’s largest auction house

Led by Decorcafe member Joanna Ling we will start with a private tour of Sotheby’s Made in Britain auction, on view at their Bond Street sale room. It is a rare opportunity to be shown around the exhibition by Robin Cawdron-Stewart, Director of the auction house’s Modern British and Post War Art department.

Celebrating the best in Modern British Art across the disciplines of paintings, works on paper, prints, photography, contemporary and studio ceramics and design, Made in Britain offers works by some of Britain’s most celebrated and sought-after artists and makers, and with estimates starting from only £300, the sale offers something for every collector, at every price level.

We will then visit Sotheby’s Cecil Beaton archive for a fascinating tour of the photographer’s studio archive which is not usually open to the public. With insights from Joanna who ran the archive for over 20 years, it is a wonderful glimpse into the world of one of the 20th century’s greatest portrait and fashion photographers.

About Joanna Ling:

Having worked at Sotheby’s for over 30 years Joanna set up her own business in 2018 designing and making bespoke ceramics from her studio in South West London. Her Cecil Beaton inspired ceramics will be on sale at the National Portrait Gallery to coincide with their exciting new blockbuster exhibition Cecil Beaton’s Bright Young Things. The show is curated by Robin Muir and draws extensively from Sotheby’s archive. The exhibition opens on 12th March.
