Event description

Description

Join our Botany Group for a special walk to discover one of Britain’s rarest plants, the spring gentian. Found only in Western Ireland and the Upper Teesdale this small but wonderfully colourful plant is a real delight not to be missed. Teesdale boasts of a striking collection of wildflowers, collectively known as the ’Teesdale assemblage', and there is sure to be something to catch your eye! This walk is being put on especially for Durham Wildlife Trust Members, places are limited so please book at www.durhamwt.co.uk. We will provide hand lens and guidance to help you identify and enjoy what you see, You might wish to bring a camera and there is no cafe, so a flask of something hot might be welcome! We will be walking along the metalled road next to the reservoir, at a steady pace, so stout shoes will help. Please come prepared for the weather - spring gentian is a sub-Artic plant - a clue that temperatures that may not be the same as lower down Teesdale. Meeting at Cow Green Car Park at 10.30am.
