Event description

Description

Come along and listen to author Sir John Nott discuss and read from his book Memorable Encounters in which he selected twenty famous people who made a distinct impression on him - from Margaret Thatcher, Enoch Powell and Ted Hughes to Nigel Farage.

Before entering Parliament in 1966, John Nott served as a Treasury Minister and sat in Margaret Thatcher's First Cabinet, firstly as Trade Secretary and then as Defence Secretary.

He left politics in 1983 to return to the City.

Sir John Nott's career in politics and business has given him a unique perspective on some of the key events in British public life.

His book Memorable Encounters is not a memoir, as the author points out. He did not want to write a serious of 'potted biographies', but to celebrate the lives and achievements of his subjects.

The comments and views about these famous and charismatic people are his, not theirs. The book is a fascinating read.

The author will be signing his book - Memorable Encounters - at the end of his talk.
