Description

The conference is part of the CAIS Investigating the Archive: Memory & Identity programme and will be held over three days on 25-27 April 2018. The conference will address the following themes.

  • Digital media as memory carriers
  • Truth, post truth, fake news and the archive
  • Distributed and networked archives: ownership, use and trust
  • Creating, reconstructing and destroying identity in the past, present and future

The conference will be preceded, on the evening of 24 April, by the inaugural lecture of the Centre for Scottish Culture, School of Humanities, in collaboration with History Scotland www.historyscotland.com.

Professor Murray Pittock, University of Glasgow and Professor Chris Whatley, University of Dundee, will discuss opposing aspects of the Eighteenth-Century Jacobite rebellion and how it has been remembered.

There will be a special screening of ‘The Destruction of Memory’ http://destructionofmemoryfilm.com/. This presentation of the acclaimed film about cultural destruction during conflict is supported by the Centre for Scottish Culture and the Centre for Global History at the University of Dundee and will be followed by a panel discussion.
