Event description
Take a walk with Menai Heritage to explore the historical waterfront along the Menai Strait

About this Event

After the building of the Menai Suspension Bridge in 1826 the town of Porthaethwy/Menai Bridge developed rapidly. Our qualified guides will take you on a walk along the waterfront, discovering the historical sites along the way. You will learn about the development of Menai Bridge town post 1826 and the significant buildings/associated personalities. They will also tell you about the prehistory, geology and natural history of the area, tidal and maritime facts, and the methods of crossing the Strait before the bridge.

Visitors will need to walk about 1.5 miles along tarmacked paths the whole way. There will be some steeper slopes but there will be places to sit. It will be mostly traffic free, but with some safe crossing points. The walk will last about 90 minutes.

Currently, with Covid-19 restrictions in place, each walk is limited to a single group of up to 12 people. All members of the group must be from a single household or a set of households allowed to meet outdoors (an extended household) according to the current Welsh Government guidelines. Your guide will remain two meters away from you at all times; please respect this requirement.

Walks must be booked and paid for in advance through EventBrite. Use the ticket options on this page to book.

Menai Heritage is a charity and all proceeds from these walks go towards supporting our work preserving the heritage and telling the story of the Menai Bridges area.
