Overview

Join us for a inclusive space of collage fun, friendship and creativity that will allow you time out to process, reflect and transform!

Bring your clothes that need repair, or your sewing projects and join us for an inclusive space of fun, friendship and creativity that will allow you time out to process, reflect and transform!

Menopause and Mind focus on raising awareness of the impact of menopause on mental health, and provide support for people experiencing menopause-related mental health struggles. Our focus is on well-being, transformation and connection. We explore creative approaches to mental well-being and practices of collective care.

Menopause and Mind - Mix and Fix - Stitch and Bitch

Menopause and Mind sessions are near-magical at soothing our souls and battle-weary brains. And now it's time for a practical session ... to mend our STUFF as well as our mental war wounds. Needles and threads included!

It can be so hard to make time to do some of the small things like little sewing projects.  It could be hemming the sleeves on your winter jacket, patching the crotch on your jeans, fixing a toy that looks sadder than it needs to, or even a wee patchwork project. It's not that we CAN'T do it, it's just that whole 'getting-around-to-it’ thing. So why not use the Meno-hood to make it happen - we're having a "Stitch & Bitch" Session!

In a way it's a version of Body Doubling to urge on those of us who struggle to get started.  But also maybe just a continuation of a grand tradition a-la "How to Make an American Quilt".

Bring your projects, bring your threads, bring your finished projects to inspire each other or books so we can learn new things. We can get things off our chest as we always do ... and while we do that, perhaps tick off one or two little things on our to-do list.  No judgement.  Bound to be some help. And loads of laughter while we mix & fix.

Access

The event will be run by our facilitator and board member Sara Gordon, and will take place at the Justlife Hub on London Road. The space is wheelchair accessible with an accessible toilet on the ground floor.

While we want to make this event accessible to all we realise that everyone’s needs are different, so if you would like to chat with one of us about access needs before coming along please email us at menoandmind@gmail.com so we can talk you through the spaces, and their possibilities and limitations.

Inclusivity

We recognise that the mainstream narrative of menopause does not include everyone and discriminates and excludes many marginalised voices, including (not exhaustively) LGBTQIA+, trans voices, minority ethnic voices and neuro and physical diverse groups. We also recognise the negative impact that adverse childhood experiences have during menopause and that menopause happens at many ages, and impacts on those experiencing POI (Premature Ovarian Insufficiency) and surgical menopause can be particularly challenging. There is a lack of information of the impact of other conditions, such as endometriosis, on menopause due to a lack of high-quality research. Menopause and Mind embrace menodiversity and welcome any person experiencing menopausal symptoms from any background. We are open to feedback to improve our sessions, and to ensure that we are using inclusive language and approaches.

We support the aims of the Menopause Inclusion Collective and are a trans-positive organisation.
