Menopause and perimenopause awareness training for substance use services
Overview
In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of drug and alcohol related deaths and non-fatal drug poisonings in women. There has also been an increase in suicide for women aged between 45 and 54. It is known that problematic alcohol use is higher in this age group of women and that, alongside the social marginalisation of women who use drugs, there is also a perception of shame for high-functioning women in regard to seeking help and support. The evidence suggests that perimenopause and menopause symptoms may have a significant impact on the health and addictive behaviours of women who are experiencing this stage of life.
This half-day training course gives practitioners a better understanding of the needs of women regarding their peri/menopause symptoms, ensuring that the needs of women in recovery are central to provision.
