Menopause Cafe, University of Leicester
Event Information
Description
Come along to the University of Leicester's first Menopause Cafe to meet others and chat about menopause.
The most common symptoms of the menopause after the well-known hot-flush are related to mental health, women can suffer from anxiety, panic attacks and low mood. Other symptoms can be memory loss and tiredness, symptoms really are quite varied - every woman is different.
With women working for longer and in more demanding roles, it is really important that we talk about menopause openly. Historically it has been a taboo subject and especially at work it can lead to people feeling anxious, embarrassed and isolated.
Here at University of Leicester, we've launched our Menopause Policy and held awareness sessions following the publication of our Menopause transition: effects on women’s economic participation. Talking about menopause and raising awareness supports our University’s HeForShe commitments; creating a cultural transformation around gender and making public gender conversations, providing transparency, and actively monitoring progress.
What are we doing now?
We're holding a Menopause Cafe - an information, social meeting. Just a relaxed chat and feel free to bring along your lunch, tea, coffee or whatever you like.
Who is it for?
Anybody interested in sharing their stories, experiences and questions about menopause. All genders and all ages. University of Leicester colleagues, employees of partner organisations and students.
Whether you're experiencing symptoms yourself and want to meet others who are or just want to chat.
Where is it?
We have a private area reserved just for the Menopause Cafe in the Graduate Lounge, Charles Wilson Building.
What's the cost?
It's FREE. Let us know you're coming by registering so we can make sure the space is big enough, or if you're suddenly available on that day, come along.
