Event description

Description

Rachel Weiss, had the idea for Menopause Cafe in June 2017, inspired by Kirsty Wark’s BBC programme “Menopause and Me” and the Death Cafe model she had already been part of. Rachel held the world’s first Menopause Cafe in Perth, Scotland that June 2017. Velindre University NHS Trust established the first work place Menopause Café event in Wales in November 2018. We also run some Menopause Café events which are open to the public.

What is the Purpose of a Workplace Menopause Café?

At a Workplace Menopause Café people, colleagues gather to eat biscuits, drink tea / coffee and discuss menopause.

The objective of Menopause Café is:

To increase awareness of the impact of the menopause on those experiencing it, their friends, colleagues and families, so that we can make conscious choices about this third stage of life.

It is a group directed discussion oabout all things menopause with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a support or counselling session. At a Menopause Café event attendees are usually split into small groups and they are welcome to just listen, although all attendees are encouraged to join in on discussions.

Who are Menopause Café Events For?

Anybody interested in sharing their stories, experiences or ask questions about menopause, whether they have experienced a natural, medical or surgical menopause. All genders (female, male and non-binary) and all age ranges are welcome, as menopause can impact on both genders and it can occur at any age or stage of life.

Menopause Café provides a space where people feel safe to talk about menopause
