In spite of the recent increase in media coverage, menopause is still widely misunderstood. It’s a transition that half the population will experience, yet it remains shrouded in myths and often spoken about only in passing or in jest. Beyond the hot flushes and headlines, menopause brings a wide range of physical, emotional, and social changes that deserve thoughtful conversation and support.
At DUT, we believe that understanding and naming our experiences is a powerful first step toward resilience. Menopause isn’t just about symptoms; it’s about identity, meaning, and how we navigate change. That’s why we’re offering a two-part workshop series to create space for both knowledge and shared experiences.
Part 1: What’s Happening To Us? - 12/11 Science, Symptoms, and Myths
We’ll take a bite-sized look at the science of menopause, clear up common misconceptions, and explore the wide range of symptoms through discussion and reflective exercises. Together, we’ll begin to “map” our stories and experiences.
Part 2: Making Sense - 19/11 Loss, Change, and Tools for Support
This session will focus on the emotional journey of menopause—what we lose, what changes, and where we might find new beginnings. Using models of transition and grief (like Worden’s tasks of mourning), we’ll look at identity and meaning-making in this stage of life. Practical tools such as grounding techniques and sleep hygiene strategies will also be shared.Participants will leave with:
- Knowledge – science and myths clarified.
- Normalisation – hearing others’ experiences.
- Meaning-making – understanding loss, change, and identity.
- Practical tools – strategies for managing symptoms and strengthening wellbeing.
This is more than a workshop; it’s an opportunity to connect, reflect, and find support in community.
