About this event

Delighted to launch Mensnap - using photography to make it easier to talk about mental health. Ideal for men who can find it hard to talk about their emotions but can find their voice from behind the lens.

In this 3-session monthly online series, we create a supportive, no-pressure space for men with or affected by MS to talk, reflect, and share. No diagnosis talk, no how-to-fix-you lectures. Just honest conversation — guided by experienced facilitators from Mindsnaps, who know how to hold space for vulnerability, humour, grief, and hope.

Each session has a photographer and a psychotherapist because the workshops are real! We have great hands-on, practical photography with real, powerful, and meaningful conversations.

From being part of this small group, you will learn about your emotions and mental health, and about photography and how using photography can assist with your mental wellness.

“As a wheelchair user with a secondary progressive MS, I use photography to explore the whole of my physical self in various contexts. I am now completely reliant on the chair, such that it is an extension of me, and I try to capture this (and other subjects) in inventive, even beautiful ways. My sense of being at one with my disability is enabled through my creative practice. It is something over which I have complete control, now in a future that is less certain.” Greame Hutton, Professor of Architecture, University of Dundee, living with MS.

What We’ll Explore Together

Session 1 – Loss What have we lost? And what are we still holding onto? We’ll explore the emotional impact of change — from roles and identity to relationships and freedom — in a space where it's okay not to have the answers.

Session 2 – Honesty Let's talk about the masks we wear and the things we don’t always say out loud. We’ll dig into how we manage the expectations of others, and what honesty looks like when living with a long-term condition.

Session 3 – Hope Where do we find it, and what does it mean now? We’ll finish the series with conversations around resilience, reimagining the future, and how we keep going (even when it’s hard).

Who It’s For

This space is for men living with or affected by MS in Scotland, aged 18+. You don’t need to have joined anything like this before. You don’t need to have the “right” words. Just come as you are.

How It Works

  • Using photography to unlock the ability to have difficult conversations, not talking about yourself, but the photograph you have taken. No specific photography equipment is required; sometimes the best photographs are those that are snapped in the moment.
  • The topic is set, and the task is to take a photograph that represents the set topic for that month. Using LENSES – Learn, Engage, Nurture, Snap, Edit, Share.
  • Attend an online small group session held on Zoom. Held monthly 6-8 pm on Zoom
  • Sessions are 2 hours long (with breaks)
  • You can bring a brew, wear a hoodie, and show up from your sofa
  • Cameras on is encouraged

Real talk. No judgment. Just space to breathe, share, and maybe even shift something.

Please note:

  • The sessions are not tailored to any specific needs
  • The sessions are designed for guidance, motivation, and educational purposes only
  • No information should be taken as medical or professional health advice
  • Each person taking part in the sessions should assess the activity and determine if it is appropriate for them
