On January 19th 2022 09.30-12.30 hrs via Microsoft Teams we will be welcoming two of the country’s top Barristers from ‘39 Essex Chambers’ who specialise in the Mental Capacity Act 2005 to come and talk to us about the topics most relevant to our Adult Social Care practice within Torbay. Speaking at our event will be:
• Eliza Sharron: - 39 Essex Chambers | Barristers' Chambers:
Eliza specialises in all fields of Court of Protection work, including property and affairs, health and welfare, serious medical treatment, and associated human rights matters. Eliza also specialises in cases that involve safeguarding vulnerable adults within the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court. She regularly acts on behalf of the Official Solicitor for protected parties, as well as acting for local authorities, NHS bodies, Clinical Commissioning Groups and individuals/family members. Eliza also undertakes inquest work and judicial review work with a particular interest in cases involving the extent of local authority duties towards young people and their families
• Sian Davies: - 39 Essex Chambers | Barristers' Chambers:
Sian Davies has experience in advocacy, advice, and drafting in public law matters, across the full range of legal issues encountered by adult social services, children’s services and housing departments. She also has a background in immigration, asylum and EU law as well as a strong Court of Protection practice. Sian provided legal literacy training on the Care Act 2014 in conjunction with the Association of Assistant Directors of Social Services and the Department of Health in 2015. She also provides training to local authorities and other training providers on topics which have recently included eligibility of persons from abroad for services under Housing Act 1996 and Children Act 1989, Care Act 2014 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
