The Pan Dorset and Wiltshire Teaching Partnership (PDWTP) are delighted to host Ian Brownhill, of 39 Essex Street to deliver our next Masterclass on the Mental Capacity Act and Court of Protection for Social Workers.

Ian works in the Court of Protection and appears in applications in the Family Division of the High Court relating to the inherent jurisdiction of the High Court in respect of children and adults, judicial reviews with regard to the treatment of vulnerable adult prisoners and inquests involving the deaths of vulnerable adults.

It is essential that all social workers understand their role within the Mental Capacity Act in relation to working with young people and adults. This masterclass will give the opportunity for social workers to understand their role and responsibilities within the Mental Capacity Act and how that links with the Court of Protection and wider human rights. There will be practice examples and opportunity for Q and A. This masterclass intents to compliment core Mental Capacity Training within your organisation.

The masterclass will;

give an overview of the Mental Capacity Act and the Court of Protection for Social Workers in both Children and Families and Adult Social Care roles.
explain the role of the Social Worker in conducting and documenting mental capacity assessments.
discuss the importance of restrictions, less restrictive options, necessary and proportionate.
consider case law and case studies from practice.
