We believe in making learning and development accessible, so that the learning is not only informed by practice, but embedded into practice.

All our courses are designed to encourage delegates to reflect on and develop their knowledge and skills, through discussion, the use of case studies, current research, and best practice examples.

By the end of the session participants will have had the opportunity to consider the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and how they can apply it to their practice, with particular emphasis on:

  • ´ Describe the 5 principles of the MCA.
  • ´ identify indicators that suggest a capacity assessment needs to be under taken.
  • ´ Apply the “two stage test “to their practice when working with an individual who may lack capacity on a specific decision at the time it needs to be made.
  • ´ Give examples of the Best Interest process and what it means to the individual.
  • ´ Illustrate what is meant by a deprivation of liberty.
  • ´ Demonstrate their own responsibility and that of the registered manager’s in applying for and implementing a deprivation of Liberty Safeguards authorisation.

Pre-requisites: As this workshop focuses on the practical application of the Mental Capacity Act 2005, there is an expectation that participants will have some fundamental knowledge of the Act, including;

´ the 5 principles of the Act.

´ What is meant by a Capacity Assessment.

´ What is meant by Best Interest decision making.

Audience: Anyone working or volunteering within a health, social care, housing or other related setting.

Cancellation policy: whilst the cancelation policy states 30 days this is due to the configuration of Eventbrite, we will actually refund any cancelation 15 days or more prior to the event minus any booking fee (£3.92) .

Any cancelation 14 days or less before the course will not receive a refund unless it is the organiser who need to cancel. Please note that these courses need to have a minimum of 10 people to be viable to proceed. If numbers are less than this, 15 days prior to the course date the course will be
