Mind in Somerset Campaign to improve Mental Health and Well-being in the Workplace

Mental ill health is the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK. In 2017, stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 40% of all work related ill health at an estimated cost to employers of £35bn a year, equivalent to £1,300 for every employee in the UK. 95% of employees calling in sick with stress give a different reason. There is significant evidence to show that looking after the mental health of employees makes business sense and increases productivity. Encouraging them to talk about their mental health can make a real difference to sickness absence rates, presenteeism levels and staff well-being.

Mind in Somerset’s vision is that every employer in Somerset has access to quality mental health and well-being training.

Come and listen and be part of their campaign to achieve this vision. They will be outlining a range of courses that will train your people in mental health awareness and skills at all levels throughout your organisation, find out more https://www.mindinsomerset.org.uk/training/.

You will also hear how they are working in partnership with national Mind and the Time to Change (TTC) Employer Pledge programme. https://www.time-to-change.org.uk/get-involved/get-your-workplace-involved/employer-pledgeTime to Change (TTC) is a movement led by national Mind and Rethink Mental Illness working to change the way we all think and act about mental health problems. The TTC Employer Pledge provides a structure around which employers can build a mental health strategy and culture and ensure that employees who are facing these problems feel supported.

Speakers: David Fields – Corporate Partnerships and Training, Mind in Somerset;  Adrian Poole - Partner, Head of Employment and Head of Medical & Care, Porter Dodson;  Richard Lowe - Director of Training and Digital Learning Solutions, Hewlett Rand;  Darren Wilson - Site Director, Thales Underwater Systems (Time to Change Employer Pledge) and Matt Jackson – Somerset County Council
