Description

This course is now full. If you would like us to send you information about future courses, please use the contact form at the bottom of the page.

This course is designed to help organisations reduce their sickness absence due to mental health problems.

Mental health problems such as stress, anxiety and depression, are one of the most significant causes of sickness abscence from work. Managers and supervisors have an important part to play in addressing this issue: their behaviour has significant impact on the mental well-being of their staff and they are likely to be the first people to be involved when problems arise.

This one-day course is designed to equip managers and supervisors with the knowledge, skills and awareness they need to better manage mental health in the work place and support colleagues with problems.

The course covers:

  • The importance of mental health in the work place.
  • Why we don’t talk about mental health at work and the problems stigma causes.
  • Common mental health conditions that managers are likely to encounter (stress, anxiety and depression), their symptoms and what they feel like.
  • Less common mental health conditions that managers may encounter (psychosis, bipolar, OCD, PTSD).
  • A layman’s guide to mental health professionals and common treatments.
  • Mental health at work and the law.
  • Factors that impact mental health at work – what causes poor mental health and what promotes mental well-being.
  • How to talk to staff about their mental health.

Who should attend?

  • Anyone who manages staff.
  • HR Professionals
