Mental Health Awareness Training
About this event
This training day is aimed at social workers, safeguarding leads and any front-line practitioners working with children and families. If you are a trained mental health practitioner or an experienced worker who has worked with people with mental health problems for several years, it might not be sufficiently advanced for you, but will work as a refresher.
This course will develop your awareness of:
- An appropriate model of mental illness
- The major mental health problems and issues of dual diagnosis affecting adults - signs and symptoms
- Treatment and interventions - brief overview of referral pathways and options
- Good practice in communicating with and supporting those with a mental health problem
- The impact of mental ill health on other family members including children
- Risks to family members, services users themselves and staff
The training will be delivered by a combination of PowerPoint, quiz and exercises, case studies, small group work and discussions.
The course will be delivered by Zoom with plenty of breaks!
The course trainer is Nigel Keir who is an experienced trainer of staff in social work, homelessness, supported housing, learning disability and mental health services. Nigel has managed community mental health services for a mental health charity and worked in the Southampton area for many years before moving to Warwickshire.
There is no charge to attend this training which is funded by the SSCP, but we ask that you complete a short feedback survey afterwards to allow us to continue to improve the training we offer.
