Panelists:

JERRY BULL: Jerry Bull is a Director of Atkins Hope and the Chair of the Law Society’s Children Law Sub-Committee. He specialises in acting for children, parents, and extended family members in all proceedings relating to children. He has been on the Law Society’s Children Accreditation Scheme (aka Children Panel) for approximately 30 years. Jerry regularly lectures on Legal Aid issues which relate to children.

MELANIE CAREW: Melanie came to CAFCASS in 2004 from private practice and initially represented guardians who had separated from the child in public law proceedings. Since the legal team was reorganised 2007 she has been a member of the team representing guardians in the High Court in the international abduction cases, medical treatment cases, and complex private law matters in the high Court, as well as providing advice to practitioners through the telephone advice line and training to Cafcass practitioners. Cafcass Legal has to make decisions about funding representation for guardians in those cases where they have separated from the child and there are legal issues to raise with the Court.

MAUD DAVIS: Maud is a solicitor-advocate and partner at TV Edwards. Maud specialises in all public law children matters. She is a Higher Rights Advocate, and is Law Society accredited in children law. She is a member of the Family Justice Council, an honorary life Vice President of the Association of Lawyers for Children, and co-chair of the Interdisciplinary Alliance for Children. She is a co-organiser of the London Children’s Lawyers
Group.

DR. MARGARET DEJONG: Dr DeJong is an expert in child and adolescent psychiatry at the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) for Children. She has worked at GOSH for over nine years and is currently the head of the Department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health.
