A young person’s journey: Explore various mental health issues and challenges they might face at different stages of their young lives.

About this Event

This event will chart a young person’s journey, exploring various mental health issues and challenges they might face at different stages of their young lives. With a diverse range of speakers covering a range of topics, tools and techniques, this event has been designed to be both thought provoking but also give the audience practical examples and tools to help them and their organisations to address mental health.

The College has an ethos of ‘Creating Brighter Futures.’ This is central to everything we do including supporting our learners.

With a focus on ‘People’ our Centre for Excellence in SEND aims to bring key decision makers, influencers and delivery staff and partners together to create the best opportunities for learners now and as they enter the workforce. The event will highlight the issues and challenges young people might face both before and after leaving further education.

This session will outline and share best practice in the following:

  • Understanding childhood events, traumas and situations that can have an impact on mental health.
  • Influences and socio-economic factors that can impact on young adults.
  • Challenging and changing the narrative.
  • Tools and techniques that can be used to support people.
  • Talking anxiety and employer support for personal development.

Speakers:

  • Keynote speaker: Anna Williamson: television presenter and author of ‘How Not to Lose It.’
  • Dr Paul Phillips CBE, CEO, Weston College
  • The Big House: hard-hitting production of ‘Bullet Tongue.’ One not to be missed!
  • Mike Armiger: specialist in the field of behaviour, looked after children and young people affected by trauma & mental health issues.
  • YoungMinds: National charity focused on young people’s wellbeing, mental health and building resilience.
  • Big White Wall: demonstration of this online resource/tool offering support 24/7, 365 days per year.
  • Nick Elston: inspirational speaker #TalkingAnxiety and founder of #ForgingPeople.

Audience: FE providers (CEO’s, senior leaders and practitioners), strategic educational stakeholders, employers, managers, heads of HR, training managers.
