About this event

What is Mental Health First Aid Training and why in Bradninch?

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training will equip you to care for both your own mental health and that of family, friends, neighbours and colleagues. It's a nationally recognised 2-day course and will give you:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing.
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues.
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress.
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening.
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by signposting them to further support.

The MHFA course is being brought to Bradninch by Bradninch Together Mental Health Matters in partnership with Bradninch Town Council, and is being offered free of charge by our partners in Network Rail South West. Our hope is that offering this training locally will help to raise awareness and upskill members of our community in mental health matters - but there is no expectation that those who participate will take on any particular responsibilities. All course materials and venue costs are covered, so the only cost (or investment!) is your time...

Practical Information

The training will take place at The Kensham Club (Bradninch Cricket Club) from 9am to 4pm over on Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th June. There will be breaks throughout each day including 30 minutes for lunch - please bring food with you. Learning will take place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. Those who take part will receive a certificate of attendance to say that you are a Mental Health First Aider, together with an MHFA manual and other resources.

The course will go ahead if there is a minimum of 10 bookings, and the maximum number of places is 15. It is essential that you're available for both days of the course and that you cancel your place in good time if unable to attend. Please note that this is a repeat of the fully booked course running on 7th and 8th June - so please don't book places on both!

More information on MHFA can be found at https://mhfaengland.org

Please don't hesitate to drop us an e-mail at mentalhealthmatters@bradninchtogether.org.uk should you have any queries about arrangements for the course. We'd also invite you to email and register your interest if you're unable to make the current dates but would be keen to take part in future.
