Event description

Description

One day course specifically for Schools and Colleges qualifying participants as a Youth MHFA Champion.

Youth MHFA Champions have:

  • An understanding of common mental health issues and how they can affect young people
  • Ability to spot signs of mental ill health in young people and guide them to a place of support
  • Knowledge and confidence to advocate for mental health awareness
  • Skills to support positive wellbeing

What to expect

  • We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn. Young people are welcome on the course but if you’re under the age of 16 we need consent from your parent or guardian.
  • The day includes a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities. You will get a Youth MHFA manual to keep and refer to whenever you need it.
  • When you complete the day you'll get a certificate to say you are a Youth MHFA Champion.

The sessions will be a mix of presentation, group discussions and group work activities. We provide a very safe learning environment and is trained to support you throughout the whole course. If you don’t feel comfortable joining in certain parts, then don’t, we won’t ask you to do something you aren’t comfortable with.

The Schools MHFA course takes place over a full day at a cost of just £125 per person, thanks to support from the HealthcareOnDemand Benevolent Fund. (This represents a significant saving on the MHFA recommended fee for this programme of £200 per attendee).

Due to some of the sensitive subjects of our courses, including suicide, we limit numbers to 16 people. We want everyone to feel safe and we can help if people find some topics particularly difficult.
