An intensive 2 day mental health training course delivered by Twining Enterprise on behalf of Waltham Forest Public Health and Waltham Forest CCG.
Mental Health First Aid is a unique training course that teaches you practical skills to confidently support people who are unwell on a first aid basis. We won't teach you how to be a therapist, but you will learn a lot more than a mental health awareness course. Once you’ve completed the two day course you will be able to confidently say you're a Mental Health First Aider.
What will I learn on my MHFA course?
_Spot the early signs of a mental health issue
_Feel confident helping someone experiencing a mental health issue
_Provide help on a first aid basis
_Help prevent someone from hurting themselves or others
_Help stop a mental health issue from getting worse
_Help someone recover faster
_Guide someone towards the right support
_Reduce the stigma of mental health issues.
A mix of presentations, group interaction, and activities. Our trainers provide a safe learning environment and are trained to support you throughout the whole course. If you don’t feel comfortable joining in certain parts, then there is no pressure to.
Due to some of the sensitive subjects of the course, we limit numbers to 12 people. We want everyone to feel safe and our instructors can help if people find some parts particularly difficult.
You'll receive a comprehensive MHFA manual that you can take away with you at the end of the session, a MHFA lapel pin, and an attendance certificate from MHFA England.
Who can attend the course?
The training is provided by Waltham Forest Public Health and Waltham Forest CCG for local front-line Health & Social Care workers. You don’t need any qualifications or experience in mental health to take part.
Here are some examples of roles that can benefit from this free training:
GP receptionists and non-clinical practice staff
Housing support staff
Health Care Assistants / Visitors
