The MHFA half day course is an introductory four-hour session to raise awareness of mental health. It is designed to give you:

  • An understanding of what mental health is and how to challenge stigma
  • A basic knowledge of some common mental health issues
  • An introduction to looking after their own mental health and maintaining wellbeing
  • Confidence to offer support someone in distress or who may be experiencing a mental health issue


Format

  • Half day online Zoom course
  • Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities online


Who should attend?

This course is suitable for those looking to understand and improve their knowledge and confidence about mental health. Attendees will learn the skills to support their own and others’ positive wellbeing in the workplace.

Please be aware that this course focuses on employees in the workplace and covers subjects that some people may find distressing, including suicide and self-harm. If an attendee feels overwhelmed they can leave the course at any time.

If you feel in advance that this subject may be too distressing for the attendee please do not book them on without first asking them whether they would feel comfortable attending. If the attendee is unsure whether mental health first aid is right for them, please encourage them to contact us to discuss their concerns.

Certification

On completion of the course, delegates will receive a Mental Health Aware certificate. Mental Health First Aid England issue the certificates and delegates can expect to receive their certificate one month after attending the course.

Replacement certificates can be requested by contacting MHFA England directly on info@mhfaengland.org.


Eligibility for a partially funded training place

This training has been partially funded by UOK - a network of local services committed to supporting good mental health and wellbeing in Brighton and Hove. To be eligible for a funded place you need to be working within the Brighton & Hove City boundary, with people in vulnerable or high risk groups. As a guide, we offer each organisation three places per course type, per financial year. However, for larger organisations further places may be available.

If you are purchasing on behalf of others, please ensure you have the full information for each participant as you will be asked to fill out details on booking. Please note that each purchase counts towards your organisation's yearly allocation, and that spaces are not transferable to other courses or dates.

There is small fee upon booking, the booking price covers administrative fees and as such is non-refundable. In the event that you cannot attend, please provide the details of anyone attending in your place.

Cancellation & Refunds:

If you need to cancel your booking, please let us know as soon as possible. The booking costs of UOK places are non refundable. All other bookings will be refunded within the following policy:

Less than 3 working notice: Not refundable

4-10 working days notice: 50% of fee

11-15 working days notice: 25% of fee

Over 15 working days notice: Fully refundable

Notes regarding the session

-Please note that ticket sales stop 2 workdays before the start of the course date, so please book ahead of the course date.

-If you have a ticket for the course, you will receive a link to the Zoom session 2 days before the course, via email, so please doublecheck the email address you add when filling in your ticket. You should receive a confirmation email shortly after booking a ticket.

-Please ensure you have Zoom installed and working ahead of the session. We are unable to issue refunds for those who are unable to attend due to technical difficulties.

-If you do have a ticket and do not receive this link 2 days before, please contact us with the name of the course and the date and time of the session.

-Finally, if it's applicable to you, an invoice will be sent after the completion of the course.
