Event description

Description

Full 2-day course, qualifying you to be a Certified Mental Health First Aider!

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Developed in Australia in 2000 and now internationally recognised in 23 countries, this MHFA course will teach you how to recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, provide help on a first aid basis and effectively guide someone towards the right support. In the same way as we learn physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to recognise those crucial warning signs of mental ill health.

This 2-day course covers the following topics:

  • Mental health, stress and stigma
  • Depression and suicidal crisis
  • Anxiety, personality disorders, eating disorders and self-harm
  • Psychosis, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder
  • Applying Mental Health First Aid to all of the above

Who is it for?

Mental Health First Aid is suitable for anyone over 16 who wants to develop a better understanding of mental health. It comes highly recommended for business leaders, line managers, HR professionals and Health & Safety experts, or anyone who wants to be better equipped to support others in a crisis. No prior knowledge of mental health is required to attend this course.

Due to the sensitive subjects within the course, we limit numbers to 16 people.

The sessions will be a mix of presentation, group discussions and group work activities. We will provide a very safe learning environment and are trained to support you throughout the whole course. We want everyone to feel safe and your instructors will help if you find any part particularly difficult.

Please note: MHFA is NOT a form of therapy or counselling support – if you’re wondering if this course is right for you please contact: kat@everyday-people.co.uk 07738 571606 or emma@b6learning.com 07802 847145

Will I take anything away with me?

All participants receive a comprehensive MHFA manual which will serve as an excellent resource, a workbook and a "Z Card (a small action plan)". You will also receive a certificate from MHFA England confirming you are a trained Mental Health First Aider.

What have other people said about the course?

We recommend watching the case studies on MHFA England’s YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6sUrzHOW4q7NWXhdXPAhyw
