We believe that mental health should be treated equally to physical health – and just like physical first aid, Mental Health First Aid training should be kept up to date.

The recommendation is that MHFA skills are refreshed every 3 years, so if you have done your MHFA training in 2021-2022 then this refresher is for you.

The MHFA Refresher course is lead by approved MHFA instructor, Clare Blunt of Venture Zero. It is a half day course and takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions, and workshop activities. It will enable learners to:

• Keep knowledge, awareness, and skills of mental health support current
• Update knowledge of mental health and what influences it
• Practice applying the Mental Health First Aid action plan

Once you have completed your MHFA Refresher course, you will be certified by Mental Health First Aid England, for three years and will be invited to become or stay a member of the Association of Mental Health First Aiders – making sure you have everything you need to feel confident when supporting others. ​

By refreshing and joining the Association of Mental Health First Aiders, you will have access to:

• The MHFAider Support App®. Access to features such as a 24/7 text support service, signposting to a national database of health services, and insights that teach critical self-care skills
• The MHFA England Online Learning Hub. This includes resources such as course manuals and MHFAider® guides
• First-hand insights. Learn from real people sharing their honest and lived experiences of mental health conditions
• Online networking. Invites to exclusive quarterly webinars to help you carry out your role as an MHFAider with confidence, skill, and care
• Monthly newsletters. You will be kept up to date with all the latest news from our community.

You must hold a MHFA certificate to be able to access this refresher course. Entry points include:

• MHFA England Mental Health First Aider
• RSPH Level 3 Award in Mental Health First Aid
• FutureQuals Level 3 Award in Mental Health: Workplace First Aider
• FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF)
