Event description

Description

Increase your awareness and understanding of the importance of mental health issues and learn the skills to be a certified mental health first aider for your organisation in this NHS-certified, two-day course.

Poor mental health is extremely prevalent in today’s society. It is something that is being talked about more and more, as people understand the stigma attached to mental health issues. This is an NHS certified Mental Health First Aid course which will enable you to take on the role of Mental Health First Aid Officer within your organisation.

This course is about looking at ways to help others (and yourself) in the event of anyone developing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.

Who should attend:
For those who would like to obtain a certified skill and who want to learn more about mental health conditions, stress, stigma, inequality and to develop the tools to help those around them.

Similar to physical First Aid, a Mental Health First Aid Officer will be able to address any immediate issues until appropriate help is available. This course will also equip you with knowledge of where to find relevant information on the mental health support in Scotland.

The course is presented by qualified SMHFA instructors and quality is continuously monitored by NHS Health Scotland.
