Description

Armed Forces Mental Health First Aid training: FREE two-day accredited course delivered in partnership with RAF Lossiemouth, for any community members who interact with armed forces personnel

9am-5pm 23rd & 24th November 2017: Booking ESSENTIAL
(Elgin venue to be confirmed) Refreshments included, but packed lunch required.

MHFA training courses teach people to spot the symptoms of mental health issues, offer initial help and guide a person towards support.

We don’t teach people to be therapists – but just like physical first aid, we teach people to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.

Developed in collaboration with the UK’s leading military support charities, Armed Forces MHFA is tailored to the unique culture and mental health needs of the military community.

For everyone in the Armed Forces community – serving personnel, veterans, their families and support organisations – our training gives people the skills to:

  • Stop a preventable health issue from escalating by spotting and addressing it early

  • Know how and where to access treatment if it’s needed, for a faster recovery

  • Help keep themselves, the people they support, their colleagues and their families healthy

  • Minimise the impact of mental ill health on work and life

You can read more about the course here on the national website.

FAQs:

What makes Moray Wellbeing Hub courses different?
Real life experiences: We believe in harnessing the power of life experiences, taking what can be challenging and abstract concepts and make it more 'real', practically useful and easier to relate to for participants. Wherever possible our courses are delivered by peer-trainers, people who know the approaches and experiences first hand from their own life.

Keeping it local: Moray has a wealth of support and education organisations in wellbeing. Our courses are delivered for the benefit of the Moray community and therefore endeavour to help our participants build sustainable links beyond any course; resources they can signpost to and access in Moray. Wherever possible we will use local trainers, venues and resources, as well as promote and deliver our courses in mutual partnership with all sizes of local organisations.

Who can attend?
The course is open to anyone from the armed forces community seeking skills in mental health first aid. We ask that people help us to make the best use of the resources by not attending if they do not identify with this community within Moray.

How are places allocated on the workshop?
Applications for places will be checked by our team and spaces will be allocated on the basis of the answers you give in your booking form. We are looking for participants that show commitment to Moray Armed Forces Community.

I don’t feel MHFA AF is for me but I’m keen to hear about other mental health awareness courses.

    • Scottish Mental Health First Aid - a two-day course similar the-the armed forces course but with a Scottish focus and aimed as a general tool for any community member.
    • Scottish Mental Health First Aid for Young People- a one-day training and distance learning course for those working with young people.
    • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid.
    • Safe TALK - a short course in suicide awareness
    • Bespoke mental health awareness sessions - Moray Wellbeing Hub can run focused MH awareness and training for any group, organisation or team over a variety of timeframes and intensities.

Contact us if you are interested in any of these courses, both to book for your organisation or as an individual wishing to attend.
