Event description

Description

This 2 day course runs on 2 consecutive Fridays - February 2nd and 9th. The cost outlined covers BOTH days.

Youth Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised two day training course, designed to teach people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health in young people and provide help on a first aid basis. Our trainer, has been delivering mental health and emotional wellbeing training for many years. He was selected by MHFA England to join their team of elite workplace instructors in 2013 and in 2014 became an award winning MHFA instructor for his exceptional standard of delivery and in 2017 received an award for excellence in training.

So, if you work, live with or care for 8 to 18 year olds, then this course is for you!

What will I learn on this two day course?

You will be taught a set of skills which enable you to support a young person experiencing a mental health issue.

The Course will give you a deeper understanding around the issues that relate to young people’s mental health and teach you practical skills that can be used daily. The 4 key sections of the course are: What is mental health?; Depression and anxiety; Suicide and psychosis and Self-harm and eating disorders

In each section you'll learn how to:

  • Spot the early signs of a mental health problem in young people
  • Feel confident helping a young person experiencing a problem
  • Provide help on a first aid basis
  • Help protect a young person who might be at risk of harm
  • Help prevent a mental health illness from getting worse
  • Help a young person recover faster
  • Guide a young person towards the right support
  • Reduce the stigma of mental health problems

The Youth MHFA course takes place over 2 full days at a recommended cost of £300 per delegate. However, for a limited time we are able to offer this course for £210 + VAT pp, thanks to funding from a Santander Discovery Grant.

The sessions are a mix of presentation, group discussions and group work activities. Peter will provide a very safe learning environment and is trained to support you throughout the whole course. If you don't feel comfortable joining in certain bits, then don't, we won't make you do something you aren't comfortable with.

Due to some of the sensitive subjects of our courses, including suicide, we limit numbers to 16 people. We want everyone to feel safe and Peter can help if people find some bits particularly difficult.
