Event description
MHFA England Mental Health First Aider 2 Day Certification Training Workshop (Adult)

About this Event

Would you know how to support a friend, family member or colleague experiencing a mental health issue, or where to go for support with your own mental health?

Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem each year, and more than one in seven people report experiencing mental health problems in the workplace.

We all have mental health, just as we all have physical health.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) will teach you how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. It won’t teach you to be a therapist, but you will learn to listen, reassure and respond, perhaps in a crisis – and even potentially prevent a crisis.

You will learn to recognise the warning signs of mental ill health, and you will develop the skills to confidently approach and support someone whilst keeping yourself safe. You will learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need for recovery, or for successful management of their symptoms. You will also gain an understanding of how to support positive well-being, and how to tackle stigma in the world around you.

The two day training is delivered across four manageable sessions, incorporating group activities, presentations and discussions. Each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan. (For details of the course structure, please click here.)

"Colin facilitated the best training I have done, he made the 2 days so interesting and I can truthfully say, had us all engaged and captivated from the first minute. Excellent trainer and speaker."

After dedicating the best part of 25 years to senior management roles in retail and hospitality, I have personally experienced just how stress is intricately interwoven with our physical, and mental health - a lesson which was irrevocably reinforced when I lost my father to suicide just a few years ago...

Colin Symington-Bailey - an MHFA England Instructor member, accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health - was named "The UK's Most Trusted in Mental Healthcare Services" in The Global Insight Business Awards, 2019, and the winner of "Excellence in Mental Health Coaching" in The Corporate LiveWire Innovation and Excellence Awards, 2019.

Allum Hall and Manor - our idyllic setting in Elstree - is less than 25 minutes via Thameslink from St Pancras International, with direct rail links also to Blackfriars, Farringdon, Kentish Town, Luton, St. Albans, Dunstable and Bedford. There is also ample provision for free parking if you would prefer to drive...

(This is a 2 day workshop. To receive your certification as a Mental Health First Aider, both days must be completed in full. Please note also that to attend the workshop, you must be 16 years of age - or older. Thank you for your understanding.)

We look forward to welcoming you on Thursday, the 24th of October...

There is no health without mental health.
