About this Event

**UPDATE - 17 March 17.58pm**

Due to recent updates from the government and with the health and well-being of our fellow fundraisers in mind, our volunteer committee along with guidance from the Institute of Fundraising have taken the decision to postpone this event.

If you are booked on to this event please look out for an email with information coming in the next 14 days – please bear with us as we are all volunteers who also work in the fundraising sector like you.

We will be offering you the opportunity to transfer your place to a future date or to seek a refund.

Refunds will be actioned during volunteering time and as such may take a while to be processed.

If you need to contact us please use our email address southwest@institute-of-fundraising.org.uk.

We are dealing with a high volume of communication from various channels so please only contact us if you feel it is absolutely urgent.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.

In solidarity

Rebecca and the IoF SW volunteer committeeMental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a training course which teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

This two day course qualifies you as a Mental Health First Aider, giving you:

  • An in-depth understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect wellbeing
  • Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
  • Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress
  • Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening
  • Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support - whether that’s self-help resources, through their employer, the NHS, or a mix
  • What’s more, you’ll gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

The Institute of Fundraising South West Group aims to support individual members who live or work in the South West through the support and the provision of bursaries for up to one third of the cost of the Mental Health First Aid training courses.
