Event Details

Elite athletes are often considered heroes devoid of mental weaknesses like depression or anxiety, hardened and well-oiled sporting machines trained to perform to the highest athletic standards.

Sir John Kirwan, Marcus Trescothick, Clara Hughes, Frank Bruno, David Beckham, Mike Tyson and Ian Thorpe are among many elite athletes who have two things in common - a successful sporting career and a battle with a mental health issue.

Apart from these triumphant testimonies there are many like Robert Enke, Justin Fashanu and Gary Speed, whose tales are tragic.

This webinar aims to attack the stigma which forces people to retreat and keep their depression buried, forcing them to live in misery, and sometimes take their own lives.

Learning outcomes:

- Host the testimonies of the unique pressures experienced by modern-day professional sports people

- Prove depression does not relate to weakness

- Clinically explain the stigma
