Description

Jacksons Law Firm would like to invite you to our FREE Employment Law Seminar covering Mental Health In The Workplace.

Mental health is an increasing concern for many employers who find themselves wrestling with the delicate balance of business commitments and staff workloads. Unlike a physical injury where the prognosis can be relatively certain, mental health conditions are harder to diagnose and far more likely to recur.

The triggers for mental illness are not limited to the workplace yet employers need to stay aware of workers’ mental health concerns, particularly as a substantial and long-term mental impairment could amount to a disability under the Equality Act 2010 and heighten the risk of unlawful discrimination occurring, but also because a healthy workforce is generally more contented, committed and productive.

In recent years stress-related absences have steadily risen whilst studies show that around 15% of workers have symptoms of an existing mental health condition. Government analysis put the annual cost to employers of poor mental health at between £33 billion and £42 billion. For a long time ignored because of indifference, ignorance or awkwardness, mental health in the workplace is now a ticking time-bomb. However, within crisis there is opportunity and for businesses prepared to address the issues, positive returns lie in the form of improved staff recruitment and retention, fewer absences and enhanced employee engagement.

Join the Employment team at Jacksons Law Firm for our Mental Health in the Workplace seminar on Wednesday 28 February 2018.

The seminar will cover mental health as a disability and employers’ obligations, managing ill health absences, recognising poor mental health in the workplace and improving mental health in your workforce.
