Event description

Description

Employees are critical to the success of your organisation. Mental health issues can lead to negative effects including higher rates of absence and lack of productivity. However, employers who take a positive and proactive approach can improve both business performance and wellbeing.

This course is designed to give HR professionals or managers confidence in their role, an understanding of what they can do to promote good mental health and what effective support they can give employees.

We are delighted to welcome Jeremy Thomas to join us for this half-day masterclass to discuss this key issue for all employers. Jeremy is a renowned author and speaker on mental health issues. He co-produced the Emmy Award winning documentary Stephen Fry, the Secret Life of a Manic Depressive and is the co-author of You Don’t Have to Be Famous to Have Manic Depression – An A-Z Guide to Good Mental Health.

Jeremy gives talks to promote good mental health in an attempt to normalise the subject of mental illness and take the prejudice out of old perception. Today, every family in the UK will experience some form of mental ill health at some point so its important that we realise that good mental health is as important as good physical health.

Jeremy’s talks are based around his own experience of dealing with depression, addiction, manic depression and offer a series of practical and useful honest tips on how to stay mentally healthy and get the best out of life. He also demonstrates why prevention is far better than cure and that humour can be the best way of talking about such a serious subject.

Paul McGowan (Partner) from Collingwood Legal, a Top Tier Legal 500 employment law firm, will discuss the legal landscape for employers including tips to help protect your business, improve employee attendance and wellbeing and deal with mental health issues with confidence and sensitivity.

The purpose of this course will be to give all attendees:

• an understanding of how prevention is better than cure;

• a range of practices that will help employees help themselves;

• an understanding of an employer’s duties under employment law;

• an overview of how to deal with “difficult” issues that may arise;

• an opportunity to work through real case studies and practical exercises.

Breakfast and refreshments will be provided on arrival and lunch will be provided following the event. Please notify us of any dietary requirements when booking. Ample free parking is available on-site on a first come, first served basis.

The half-day course cost is £125 plus VAT. Book before 31 August 2017 for our early bird discount of £99 plus VAT.
