consented.co.uk brings you Mental Health Matters, a day of workshops and discussions focusing on our mental health.
In the UK rates of depression, anxiety and suicide are on the rise with one in four adults being diagnosed with a mental health issue each year as well as a record numbers of children calling Childline with suicidal thoughts.
As a result of all this and more we will explore to what extent our deteriorating mental wellbeing is down to our lifestyles and the societal pressures brought about by capitalism.
We will also discuss how race intersects with the crisis as people of colour are disproportionately affected by mental health problems.
It should also be remembered that these worrying figures have occurred against the backdrop of the 2008 financial crisis and the most brutal austerity measures in generations.
In response, it is paramount for us to build safe spaces where we can have open and honest discussions about what we are all experiencing and well as putting forward solutions.
Workshops themes will be: race, capitalism, self-care and masculinity.
