Description

Leeds Social Sciences Institute (LSSI) / Leeds University Health Theme / Leeds Humanities Research Institute (LHRI) are hosting a University-wide networking event around mental health research.

Plenary Speaker: Jane Williams (Strategic Commissioning Lead Mental Health, Leeds Clinical Commissioning Groups), The National Context of Current Mental Health Priorities

Mental health research is one of the priorities of RCUK (MRC, ESRC, EPSRC, and GCRF) as well as many other funders so it seems timely that we get a better understanding of what Leeds has to offer in this area. We know there are quite a few academics across the eight Faculties working on and interested in mental health research but, and this is not a surprise within a University this size, no one seems to have a complete overview of who is doing what and where.

The main purpose of the event is to bring together mental health researchers across the University, giving people an opportunity to introduce themselves, their main area of expertise, what they are currently working on and any future plans. It will also give everyone an opportunity to explore, and make new connections.

We hope that this first event will give us some insights into the strengths of Leeds mental health research, where the gaps are, who else we may want to connect with to with to fill these gaps, and how we can best combine expertise and resources to respond to future calls and create the most exciting, innovative and competitive possible research projects.

The event will include a series oflighting talks’ from a wide range of academics and we have also invited the Strategic Commissioning Lead Mental Health for the Leeds Clinical Commissioning Groups to help frame the event and will be talking about the challenges and priorities of mental health set in a national context.

There will be a networking buffet lunch
