The 2015 CIPD Annual Absence Management Survey showed that whilst the number of days’ absences has remained relatively stable at just below 7 days per employee per year, mental ill-health and stress now accounts for over 30% of all long-term absences, a 13% increase in just two years.
How are managers equipped to deal with mental health issues? What would they do if an employee suddenly had an attack whilst at work? What would they do if an employee threatens to commit suicide on their way home? What happens if an employee is suffering from serious home issues and states they cannot cope but have to come to work because they cannot afford to be off?
This is a practical event aimed at professionals who are involved with sickness and absence of employees.
Join us at our event as Margaret Lewis, Acting CEO of MIND Sheffield gives background into depression, axiety and stress – the signs, symptoms; the do’s and the don’ts, who to signpost to and other resources. Andrea Paterson, Head of Nuffield Occupational Health will then look at the actions that can be taken in the workplace including adjustments and support that can be offered. Finally, Kirsty Ayre, Partner, Irwin Mitchell Solicitors, will take a look at the legal aspects of employee relationship and dealing with difficult ill-health issues in the workplace.
We will also be joined by members of the local CIPD membership team who will examine the role HR will need to play and how they can ensure you keep your own skills and development up to date.
Professional photography and video production will be taking place at the event, and these images may be used on future promotional materials for CIPD. Please note that by attending the event, you are giving your consent for your image to be used on any CIPD promotional materials.
