In 2015/16 Stress accounted for 45% of all working days lost in the UK with about 244,000 new cases of work related stress, depression or anxiety being diagnosed in the last year – this equates to 668 a day or one every 2.1 minutes. Each year mental health problems affect 1 in 6 UK workers and results in a total of 17 million working days lost at a cost to the economy of around £2.4 billion. And this is a growing problem with a 25% increase in such absenteeism in the last year and it has been identified that work related stress is more prevalent in the public sector.
