Mentoring Special Interest Group (SIG)
Mon 13 June 2016, 12:00 – 14:00 BST
The focus for the meeting will be on Karpman’s ‘Drama Triangle’ (1968) and how it influences mentoring relationships. The Drama Triangle describes dysfunctional social relationships in which individuals play the parts of victim, persecutor and rescuer. To make matters even more complex, roles can change fluidly so that yesterday’s victim is tomorrow’s persecutor. Although you may be unfamiliar with the theory you will almost certainly recognise the behaviours described by Karpman in social relationships around you, indeed you may inadvertently be sustaining one with your own mentee! Is this important and how do we deal with it? Come along and join the conversation as we explore our realities and share our thoughts on how we manage these situations in our mentoring activities.
