Event description

Description

This meetup will be divided in three different sessions. We will start with a quick introduction about the usage of Pivotal Cloud Foundry at Mercedes-Benz.io Our second session is about Cloud Native Architecture, Docker, Event Driven Architecture and the roadmap of Spring. In the end we will have an open discussion about topics selected by the attendees.

This is an event open to everyone who is interest on those topic.

Title: Speed up the development with Pivotal Cloud Foundry

Speaker: André Macedo

In this presentation, I will show you our journey to achieving DevOps culture in our company. Since the beginning, we wanted to be able to quickly start delivering customer value in self-independent teams without an initial complex setup. I will also focus on how we deal with a fast growing company facing the challenge of giving freedom/autonomy to our teams.

André Macedo is working at Architecture and Technology at Mercedes-benz.io. He is currently working together with the teams to define the technical roadmap and optimizing the software development life cycle.

Title: A Brief History of Cloud Native Architecture

Speaker: Matt Stine

In Cloud Native Architecture we are witnessing a paradigm shift that will come to be regarded as world changing as the Industrial Revolution.

Watching the microservices hype cycle since its inception has been both entertaining and enlightening to say the least. One of my great loves is pattern matching, and having a front row seat to multiple microservices implementations and migrations across every business vertical imaginable has given me ample opportunities to practice.

If there's one thing that I've learned, it is that microservice architectures, while crucial to our ability to deliver complex software systems at scale, are not enough. Companies must employ the full slate of cultural values, patterns, practices, and techniques that are found in the DevOps and Continuous Delivery conversations, as well as opinionated and structured pipeline automation and cloud platforms, an intellectual cornucopia my friends and I have begun to call "cloud native."

When examining the promise of cloud native, it's amazing to realize that we're now approaching the first time in history when we're finding realistic and helpful analogs between elements of software delivery and the innovations of the Industrial Revolution. During this presentation we'll take a magical tour through those innovations, as well as surprising detours into the pits of NASCAR, the complex adaptive behavior of ant colonies, and "Turtles All the Way Down." Along the way practical examples will be given from Concourse, Cloud Foundry, BOSH, Spring Boot and Spring Cloud.

Matt Stine, Global CTO – Architecture from Pivotal, is an 18 year veteran of the enterprise IT industry, with six of those years spent as a consulting solutions architect for multiple Fortune 500 companies, as well as the not-for-profit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He is the author of Migrating to Cloud-Native Application Architectures from O’Reilly, and the host of the Software Architecture Radio podcast.
