Event description

Description

Parc Taf Bargoed celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and this is a walk that celebrates not just the history of the landscape but also how the landscape has been transformed from over 100 years of mining to a haven for wildlife. This will be an approximate 3.5 miles (5.6 km) gentle walk starting at the Pavilion. The route will take in the tranquil setting of a mile long lake. It is said that this is the best place to see little grebes, one of the many resident wildfowl here. As you approach the lake, you will hear the unmistakable calls of this wonderful little bird. From the lake, the walk will meander through the cascades to a semi-natural woodland setting and on a sunny day, tortoiseshell butterflies, peacock and red admirals can be seen along the way. Then we will make our way to over the suspension bridge into the Miner’s Entrance, where a sculpture commemorates the work and lives of the miners who worked in the mines that are part of the heritage of the park and its surrounding communities. The walk then loops back to the Pavilion.

This walk is not suitable for wheelchairs or prams.
