About Dr Caroline Astell-Burt

Dr Caroline Astell-Burt is one of the founders of the London School of Puppetry. She has taught and practiced shadow puppetry at professional level for many years. Caroline’s work has included large-scale projects with the Royal Opera House, London Philharmonic, Britten Sinfonia, London Mozart Players, Royal Opera House, BBC, ITV, the Bournemouth Symphony and Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestras. She has made small-scale work for BBC and Channel 4.

She developed a reputation as a puppeteer while working as a residential social worker at Barnardo's. Her interest in special needs work quickly widened as her own performance work developed to include puppetry with music, music theatre, opera and dance.

She has a PhD from Loughborough University based on Japanese Otome Bunraku puppetry and is the author of many articles and the puppetry book 'I Am The Story' which is about the art of puppetry in education and therapy.
